New Brunswick police officer dragged 50 feet by a suspect's vehicle

Authorities say a New Brunswick police officer is in stable condition in the hospital with multiple broken bones, abrasions and internal injuries after being dragged about 50 feet by a suspect's vehicle.  Police Director Anthony Caputo says it happened during an encounter with 24-year-old Donell Cook around 2:30 Thursday morning on Commercial Avenue.  The officer - who has not been named - was dragged until Cook's vehicle hit a parked vehicle, at which point he got out, assaulted, and tried to disarm the officer.  The officer was able to fight him off.  The suspect fled, but was captured by New Brunswick and Rutgers University police officers.  Cook faces numerous charges, including multiple warrants for unrelated incidents.  The investigation is ongoing.
