Happy (almost) Unofficial Start of Summer!
Whether you're headed down the shore or hanging in the backyard, here are a few essentials for the perfect Memorial Day Holiday celebration!
THE AMERICAN FLAG
The United States Flag Code states that on Memorial Day, the flag should be hung at half-staff until noon, when it should be raised to the top of the staff. The half-staff position remembers the more than one million men and women who gave their lives in service of their country. At noon their memory is raised by the living, who resolve not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up in their stead and continue the fight for liberty and justice for all.
Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. Parades across the state and country serve as remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. Before you settle in for the afternoon BBQ, find and attend a parade near you!
Ribs ,burgers, dogs….no Memorial Day BBQ is complete without the meat!
There are few things that top an ice cold beer outside on a sunny day with friends.
Drink some American brews like to celebrate the holiday like a Sam Adams Summer or classic Budweiser. Or try a local Jersey brewery like Flying Fish for hometown pride!
You can’t have a great summer without awesome music.
Whether in the backyard or on the beach, protect yourself from the sun and all its effects.
Avoid getting red so you won’t be blue!
Unless you like rare (raw) meat, you can’t have a BBQ if the grill isn’t working! Make sure everything is in working order before your hungry guests roll in!
Over the grill, in the fire pit, or even in the microwave…marshmallow, chocolate, and grahams are one of America’s favorite outdoor treats.
Nothing screams summer like a juicy slice of watermelon. Spit the seeds or spike it for added fun!
Kick off summer and a season outdoors with games and entertainment. Easy-to-play backyard games like these will keep everyone laughing and having a good time.
Avoid uninvited guests at your BBQ that may be tempted to bite the food…and your ankles!
