Established in 1969 as a state-supported, co-educational, four-year College of liberal arts, sciences, and professional studies. Accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in 1975. Reaccredited in 1981, 1990 and 2000. The Social Work Program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The Chemistry Program is approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS). The Nursing Program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The Teacher Certification program is approved by the State of New Jersey and was granted "New Program Accreditation" by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).
Ramapo College is a founding member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges, a national alliance of leading liberal arts colleges in the public sector.
In fall 2009, more than 5,660 students attended Ramapo College, including 213 graduate students and 110 undergraduate international students.
Ramapo has 218 full-time faculty, of which 95 percent have doctorate or terminal degrees. This faculty is supplemented by adjunct specialists and other visiting scholars.
U.S. News & World Report: In the 2010 edition of America's Best Colleges, released by U.S. News & World Report, Ramapo College was among the best in the North.
Kiplinger's Personal Finance: In the 2010 "100 Best Values in Public Colleges," Ramapo College is ranked with the nation's most respected state and regional institutions.
Organized into five interdisciplinary schools with more than 700 course offerings and 40 academic programs, the Public College's offerings are complemented by lectures, performances, and off-campus experiences. Ramapo College offers bachelor's degrees in the arts, business, the humanities, the social sciences, and the sciences, as well as in professional studies programs such as nursing, social work and Teacher Education. Four programs are offered leading to a master's degree: Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS), Master of Arts in Sustainability Studies (MASS), Master of Science in Educational Technology, and a Master's of Science in Nursing. The college also offers programs with the University of Medicine and Dentistry for physician assistant (B.S./M.S.) and physical therapy (B.S./M.S.); a B.S. graduate degree program in chemistry with Rutgers University; a B.S./Doctor of Chiropractic with New York Chiropractic College; a B.S./D.D.S. and a B.S./D.M.D. with the New York University College of Dentistry and UMDNJ Dental School; a B.S./Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) with SUNY State College of Optometry; and a B.S./Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) through UMDNJ Osteopathic Medicine - School of Osteopathic Medicine (SOM). In addition, a B.S./D.P.M. in Podiatric Medicine is offered through New York College of Podiatric and advanced placement into a M.S. program is offered through an articulation agreement of the B.S. degree from Ramapo College in Bioinformatics with an M.S. degree in Biomedical Informatics at UMDNJ-SHRP.
