WOMEN IN BUSINESS: Mentor of the Year
Winner: Marjorie Young
Nominator: Steven Weiss
Marjorie Young joined JFK Medical Center in 2011 as the Director of Peri Operative Services, and oversees all surgical programs, including Pre Admission Testing, Same Day Surgery, The Medi Plex Surgery Center, and the JFK Surgical Suite Operating & Recovery Rooms. In addition, Marjorie is responsible for the JFK Endoscopy Suite and JFK for Life Bariatric Surgical Program.
In her role as director, Marjorie works with patients who are having an operation or other invasive procedures, and is directly responsible for their well-being throughout the entire process. As the head of Peri Operative Services, she serves as the patient advocate while he or she is under anesthesia and is virtually powerless to make his or her own decisions.
Peri Operative nursing requires unique and highly specialized skills gained from years of training and education. Since early on in her career, Marjorie has dedicated her life to caring for others. She places extreme value on every patient having the best possible outcome. She feels the staff has a duty to make it better for the patients, and always tells her team if they follow that guiding principle, everything else will fall into place.
Day-in and day-out, Marjorie is involved with running a highly complex and intricate series of processes, advancing innovative medical and surgical technology, and helping those feeling the emotional burden of uncertainty.
She is a true mentor and leader in every sense of the word, and this is why she's receiving the “Women in Business Mentor of the year award!”
